Design and Execute Strategy for Profitability
IT'S ALL IN CLARITY OF VISION
The founding executives of the Canadian Pacific Hotels saw a vision when they saw Lake Louise - and that vision
is still being realized today by Fairmont Hotels (who purchased CP Hotels not long ago). I base my business,
and yours, on tested principles of success.
The Strategic Planning and Team Model I Use: After studying and doing strategic planning for 20 years, and
helping CEO's of businesses and police chiefs plan their strategy at a retreat centers near Lake Louise
(above), I now use a faster and more focused approach to strategic planning and implementation that includes
a focus on business development through e-commerce: You can view the model by clicking on: Turbo-Charging
Your Business!"
The Time Required: Normally, we can accomplish:
- an organizational review (I often use the Organizational Assessment Review) in one day and generate a report within a few days,
- a full planning session with your management team in two days, and then do continuous improvement reviews of the plan in ½ day per month, with measurable outcomes that far outweigh the time and cost of doing the process.
- Leadership Development -- all the above occurs while managers learn team leadership skills and strategic plan implementation skills. And, they are accountable to one another at the monthly implementation meetings, which I often facilitate until one or more managers gain high-level strategic and facilitation skills (on average, about 1 year).
The Cost and Outcomes: The cost for this kind of service is often under $10,000-20,000US per year, depending on
company size, with a measurable yields of often more than 5 to 50 times that investment in productivity, savings
and/or increased profitability in a small to mid-sized organization.
Some Clients Groups Where I Have Successfully Put Theory Into Practice: GTE, The New Westminster Police
Service, B.C., The San Diego Police Department, Security Resource Group, Surrey, B.C., Strategic Profits, Inc.,
Vancouver, B.C., Stuart C. Irby Company, Mississippi, The TORO Company, Riverside, CA., The Universal Group of
Companies, Ltd., in Vancouver, B.C. See client letters of reference for testimonies of results in both business
and government environments.
My Background as a Strategic Planner: For those of you who want to know my background as a strategic planner,
part of my practical training in strategic planning was with Stephen Haines, Ph.D., President of the Centre for
Strategic Management in San Diego, California, who wrote, The Systems Thinking Approach to Strategic Planning
and Management; and the other practical training I received was from Bill Bean, Chair of Strategia, an ex-CFO at
IBM, who wrote Strategic Planning that Makes Things Happen. I worked with Bill to deliver his model at a Strategic
Planning Institute to 80 company executives (and their management teams) who attended the Young President's
Organization's Annual University (in 1997). I also learned allot of planning theory through my studies with
Professor Robert Marx at the University of Massachusetts School of Management. He sat on my doctoral committee
when I completed the Ph.D. in Administration and Management in 1992. For a brief bio of my background, see my biographical summary.
My Long Term Clients Build the Leadership and Learning Organization: I developed and teach an integrative model
for organizational leadership and learning to my longer terms clients because I wanted to optimize the planning
and implementation process while developing leadership capacity at the same time. This combination of planning,
implementation and leadership development integrates the best of all theory and practice into an elegant continuous
improvement model. If you want to see a full-blown Power Point Presentation of this Model,
Lastly, my key clients often read my book and learn how to integrate all of the elements in the above model:
Transforming Leadership: Equipping Yourself and Coaching Others to Build the Leadership Organization (1998).
I have helped a number of clients learn to implement this process so well that they don't need my services any
longer. See letters of reference for some of the consulting work I have done where this has been the case.
